Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Alabama seeks applications for a Postdoctoral position for a project to develop mathematical and computational models to study materials under extreme conditions, such as extreme temperatures and irradiation doses. This position will work under the direction of Dr. Kasra Momeni.

Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the Mechanical Engineering Department. The department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field is required.

Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: This position requires experience in multi-scale modeling of materials under extreme conditions and programming skills. The candidate must have a solid background in theoretical and computational mechanics.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing multi-scale models while the materials are under the extreme conditions of radiation, heat, stresses, etc. Knowledge of molecular dynamics simulations, phase-field simulations, or a programming language are preferred.
