Job Summary: The Interior Designer II is a senior level designer that works independently with minimal supervision. This position will be responsible for providing design services on projects that range in size and complexity. May provide direction to other interior designers or students.


Additional Department Summary: Areas of expertise include but are not limited to: A) Interior Finishes and relevant performance standards. B) Knowledge and understanding of codes as they relate to the interior built environment. C) Management of construction process; on-site inspections, submittal reviews, coordination with PM/Contractors, and punch documentation. This position will function as part of the design team and is expected to have detailed knowledge of and the ability to produce detailed working drawings for millwork designs in the form of sections/details, finish schedules, RCP's, and floor pattern plans. The Interior Designer II will be collaborating with various Architectural partners and other design professionals, it is imperative that the candidate possess effective communication skills. Additionally, the Interior Designer II must demonstrate a basic understanding of commercial furniture and be able to provide furniture drawings that reflect compliance with codes such as ADA and life safety. The Interior Designer II will be procuring and installing large quantities of furniture and must be detailed oriented and able to maintain project established budgets. Coordinates ID document closeouts and ensures project archival. As this position is required to handle multiple projects simultaneously, the Interior Designer II must demonstrate an ability to manage time effectively and proactively delegate to other team members.


Required Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in interior design from a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) institution and three years of commercial interior design experience, or a National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification and two years of commercial interior design experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of building codes, construction regulations and accessibility design. Proficient in AutoCAD and/or ReVIT (or other industry accepted software), MS office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Preferred Qualifications: Documented examples of projects where the applicant made significant design contribution to the project and contributed to the development and management of the project, and work experience within a University environment is preferred. National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification preferred.
