Normal Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm


Job Summary: The Director of Communications is responsible for the operational management of UA Communications related to media relations, internal communications and the UA News Center.


Additional Department Summary: Directs the long-range strategic planning, operations and/or administrative activities of the university’s communications programs. Directs strategy, development and publication of communications initiatives. Structures communications plans to achieve long-term and short-term organizational goals. Analyzes the effectiveness of and establishes future direction for functional policies and programs. Works closely in collaboration with other directors within Strategic Communications to address strategic University and division priorities. Serves as an integral and leading member of the University’s core crisis communications team. Manages programs and other supervisors/assistant directors/professionals. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Communications. The Director of Communications may be required to work extended hours, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to cover campus needs.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and five (5) years of experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work nights and weekends.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong knowledge of AP style and previous media relations experience. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective communication plans.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree three (3) years of experience in higher education, to include two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
