Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm; hours/shifts may vary


Job Summary: The LPN is responsible for facilitating quality patient care and treatment within the scope of his/her license by providing medical/surgical assistance to physicians and registered nurses and by preparing patients for visits. In addition, the LPN may screen calls, schedule appointments and follow-up visits, and provide nursing care as authorized by current certifications.


Additional Department Summary: The staff nurse provides direct nursing care to residents. Assists with the daily operation of the Wellness Clinic and MD Clinics. Provide medication assistance to the Independent Living residents by filling pill boxes or ordering special packaging of medications. Perform health screenings, wound care, glucose screenings as needed. Assists RN with updating and maintaining of medical records. Assists RN in maintaining clinic data sheets in computer (hospitalizations, rehab, etc). Creates end of month report for all events. Orders sick trays for residents when they are approved. Assists residents with arranging doctor or other medical appointments. Makes emergency and non-emergency apartment calls. Maintains caregiver files and assists residents in obtaining assistance when needed. Performs treatments and procedures, obtains specimens as needed, and completes documentation as required.



Required Department Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or the equivalent. Must be licensed as a LPN in the State of Alabama in good standing. Two (2) years of experience working as a licensed practical nurse including experience and awareness of the needs of Geriatric Residents. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: CPR. Must be able to read regulations and write clearly. Must be able to communicate in courteous, friendly manner.
